How to change my 15 hp yamaha to a 20hp (outboard)?
Someone told me its just a $3 gasket. Its a 2007 yamaha 4 stroke 15 hp. If someone wants to find me the exact piece number and if thats all i need i will tip you (pp only).
Went through the 15 and 20 and the only piece that is different is some governing gasket. Every other part is exactly the same.
It will be more than that!
The easiest way to upgrade your engine to 20HP is to take your 15HP, clean it, service it and then sell it or trade it for a 20HP. This will be much cheaper and will preserve the value of the 15HP. If you do modify a good quality engine like a Yammie - you will probably decrease it's value significantly. If you are that marginal in power then the modification will result in an engine that may well provide extra top end, but at the expense of bottom end grunt and reliability. The extra power will be only due to higher revs or additional compression if the engine is the same displacement, and will require different carby(ies), ignition and throttle advance system, possibly higher octane fuel and other misc. parts. If it was that simple then it would be easy - but it's not.
And the performance difference will be less than you think overall - at best you might hold an extra inch of pitch, probably half an inch, and for the expense why bother for an extra 3 or 4 knots possibly.
