This is probably a homework assignment, so just answering it for you won't teach you anything. But I will explain the concept to you so maybe you can figure out the right answers on your own.

The predicate is the part of the sentence that comes after the verb (in most cases). In Sentence 1, the verb is "was", so everything after it is the predicate. The subject is what does the verb. So the subject in Sentence 1 is "Mesopotamia".

The difference between PN and PA is this: PN tells you what the subejct is or was or will be. PA describes what the subject is like; it describes the subject is some way. The word that is the focus of the verb is usually an adjective.

So in sentence 1, does "an ancient country in the Middle East" describe what Mesopotamia is like (such as color, size, condition) OR does it tell you what it was, is or will be?

Your underlined words aren't showing up in the posting, so I can't see exactly what the focus of each sentence is, but you should be able to figure out the answers anyway from what I've described. I hope this helps.

NOTE: When the sentence is a question, you need to reword the question as if it were a sentence to more easily see what the predicate is. For instance, Sentence 4: An English horn is (or isn't) quite similar to an oboe?
