How do I find out what boat my grandfather was on in WW II?
My husband and I both had grandfathers in the U.S. Navy, specifically, in the Pacific fleet. We were talking the other day and thought how cool it would be if they had served on the same boat. I'm an amateur genealogist trying to find this out and I'm running into brick walls everywhere. Is there any help that anyone could give me?
You need to send for their military service records from the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis MO. It's a quick and easy process. Here's the link.

The other place you can get help is from the funeral director(s) who handled their final arrangements. They would have run a military service record on each of your dads to see if they qualified for military honors at their funerals.
