How do you build a 406 small block chevy?
Considering a 76 Corvette that desperately needs some umph.
Wow a 406. Haven’t seen one in a while. What I have done in the past when I have built motors and I was not going to race the car was to take the cam and put in an RV cam (more lift for more fuel) and change the compression 1 point. (So if you’re currently running 9.0 compressions take it to a 10. keep the intake and carb. It's very cost effective and puts about 50 to 60 more horse in to the motor. Replace the springs with the same tension springs, clean up the valves and the valve seats. Cost should only be about 200 more for the rebuild and it should give you what you’re looking for. The 406 was a really good motor. Have a professional shop do all the machine work and assembly. But you can do the pull and install.
