Is this big block of cheese still good to eat?
I'm trying to make sausage balls here & I have a big block of cheddar cheese in my fridge. Its from the deli & it was sold on 8-9-09. There appears to be not mold on it, but i'm still worried about mold root systems. Is this cheese still good to eat. Its in a sealed bag the deli provided.
Mold does not have "roots" of any sort.
If the cheese is still flexible (meaning it has not dried out) and it has been in the fridge, it is just fine.
If you are paranoid, slice off a very thin layer on all sides.
BTW - cheese is made with bacterial cultures, mold on cheese (when you see it) is normal.
